🥥 Toronto Rock vs. Saskatchewan Rush, Marvel Super Hero Night
When: Friday, Mar 20 @ 7:30 PM
Where: TD Coliseum (101 York Blvd)
It's Marvel Super Hero Night at TD Coliseum, which means one of the most fun atmospheres of the NLL season, with the Toronto Rock hosting the Saskatchewan Rush. The Rock have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch at their newly renovated Hamilton home this season, and the Rush are always a formidable opponent. Fast, physical, and loud from the first faceoff, professional lacrosse at TD Coliseum is one of Hamilton's best-kept secrets for an affordable, electric Friday night out. Costumes encouraged.
🎼 Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra
When: Saturday, Mar 21 @ 7:30 PM
Where: FirstOntario Concert Hall (1 Summers Lane)
Your HPO delivers an elegant evening of dance-inspired music this Saturday, the kind of concert that earns a standing ovation and makes you want to come back next season. The HPO has been one of Hamilton's cultural anchors since 1884, and their mainstage concerts at FirstOntario Concert Hall are always a class night out, whether you're a long-time subscriber or attending for the first time. Tickets are available now.
🍁 Maple Syrup Season at Westfield Heritage Village
When: Sunday, Mar 22 (10 AM to 4 PM, reservation required)
Where: Westfield Heritage Village, 1049 Kirkwall Rd, Rockton
This is it: the final Sunday of Maple Syrup Season at Westfield Heritage Village. Watch sap transform into syrup at two demonstration sites, including the modern sugar shack, explore the Maple Trivia Trail, hop on a wagon ride, and enjoy a pancake feast from the St. George Lions Club at Ironwood Hall. Historic buildings open their doors, and volunteer interpreters bring the whole heritage experience to life. A reservation is required (each slot covers a 2-hour visit and up to 7 people), so book ahead before it fills up. A wonderful family outing just outside the city.
🌸 RBG Floral Showcase: Bloomland in Oz
When: Saturday to Sunday (ongoing through April 6)
Where: Royal Botanical Gardens (680 Plains Rd W, Burlington)
Still one of the best warm-weather escapes near Hamilton, the RBG's winter floral showcase runs through early April. Follow the yellow brick road through 25,000 real blooms, whimsical Oz-inspired displays, and artistic floral installations across the gardens. About 20 minutes from downtown Hamilton and worth every minute of the drive.
🌲 Outdoor + Spring Activities
🪨 Dundas Valley Conservation Area
When: Anytime this weekend (daytime best)
Where: 650 Governors Rd, Dundas
The trails at Dundas Valley are a reliable weekend reset any time of year, and as the season turns toward spring, the forest starts to feel a bit different. A great spot to stretch your legs and clear your head after a week indoors.
🌿 Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse
When: Anytime this weekend
Where: Gage Park
Free, cozy, and a reliable indoor option for a mixed-weather weekend. A great plan B if the forecast's flurry chance decides to show up.
😇 Devil's Punchbowl Lookout
When: Daytime (clear skies = best views)
Where: Ridge Rd, Stoney Creek
A quick stop with a big payoff. One of Hamilton's most dramatic lookout points, and always worth the short walk from the parking area on a dry afternoon.
🍽️ Where To Eat This Weekend
Stoney Creek: 🍺 Chuggy's Tap and Grill
Where: 388 Barton St, Stoney Creek
A Stoney Creek institution with 36 years of loyal regulars and a very good reason: Chuggy's is the quintessential neighbourhood pub that gets the formula exactly right. Generous portions, homemade food, a comfortable room full of TVs for catching the game, and the kind of warm, unpretentious atmosphere that makes you want to stay for another round. Their burgers, wings, and homemade soups are the standouts, and the staff has the kind of easy familiarity that comes from decades of serving the same community. Open Tuesday through Sunday.
What to order: A burger, a plate of wings, and whatever the soup of the day happens to be.
Binbrook: 🦊 Slye Fox Binbrook
Where: 2537 Regional Rd 56, Binbrook
Binbrook's go-to pub for great food, cold draught, and good vibes, Slye Fox delivers a solid neighbourhood sports bar experience with a menu that goes well beyond typical bar fare. The kitchen turns out everything from Korean steak bowls and hot chicken curry to crispy fish and chips, creative burgers, and weekend specials worth planning your night around. This weekend features live music on Friday (Mike Balonjon) and Saturday (Warren Jones), both starting at 7:30 PM, making it one of the better reasons to head out to Binbrook for the evening.
What to order: The Binbrook General Store Burger, the fish and chips, or the Korean steak bowl.
Hamilton: 🍝 La Spaghett Pasta House
Where: 970 Upper James St, Hamilton
A Hamilton treasure for over 20 years, La Spaghett is the kind of restaurant that local families return to for birthdays and anniversaries and quietly keep to themselves like a best-kept secret. The draw is simple: over 30 artisan pasta sauces, all made from scratch, with the kitchen happy to customize any sauce to your taste. Intimate candlelit dining room, a thoughtfully curated wine list featuring private vineyards, and the kind of attentive service that makes a weeknight dinner feel like a proper occasion. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 4:30 PM, and reservations are recommended.
What to order: Ask your server what pasta sauce is calling their name tonight, and trust them.
🍽 Restaurant of the Week, James Street North
🇮🇹 Valentino's Restaurant
📍 824 King St W (Westdale) and 835 Paramount Dr (Stoney Creek)
The Vibe
A Hamilton culinary institution serving authentic Italian cuisine since 1978, Valentino's is the kind of restaurant that transcends trends because it never chased them. Family-owned and operated, with two welcoming locations across the city, the heart of the kitchen has stayed the same for nearly 50 years: handmade, homemade food crafted from quality ingredients using the original recipes that first welcomed guests through the door almost five decades ago.
The Food
This is classic, labour-intensive Italian done with genuine care: handmade pastas, house-crafted sauces, and a menu that reflects the kind of cooking you don't find in shortcuts. Both the Westdale and Stoney Creek locations offer dine-in and online ordering, with catering, cakes, pastries, and even a specialty-foods arm (Spadafora's) rounding out Valentino's family of offerings.
Why We Love It
Almost 50 years in Hamilton. Two locations. The same recipes. That kind of consistency doesn't happen by accident; it happens because the food earns it every single time.
Perfect For
Family dinners, date nights, celebrations worth celebrating, or any night when you want authentic Italian that actually tastes like it was made with care.
What to order: Ask about the house-made pasta features and let the kitchen do the rest.
